In 2007, Dr. Elefteriades operates with Chief Cardiothoracic Resident Dr. Emily Farkas, the first female graduate of the cardiothoracic surgical training program in its 50-year history. Dr. Farkas is now a faculty member at the St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO.

The Section of Cardiac Surgery staffs a large volume, state-of-the art surgical program. Surgical outcomes are superlative—among the very best in the nation. Surgical volume continues to grow, even at a time when most surgical programs are seeing fewer patients.

Special programs in thoracic aortic surgery and mitral valve repair excel in volume and results. Innovative investigations lead to national prominence in the academic environment. The resident program has trained cardiothoracic surgeons who operate and serve on academic faculties all over the world.
