Visitor Information

Yale Otolaryngology comprises otolaryngologists and a highly skilled support staff that includes speech pathologists and audiologists. All physicians are board certified in ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery. As part of the Yale Cancer Center, the team offers expert care for tumors of the skull base and other malignancies of the head and neck. A collaborative approach with other disciplines such as plastic surgery, dermatology, radiation therapy, oncology, and oral surgery offers the most effective treatment options for diseases affecting the nose, sinuses, larynx and pharynx, and for maxillo–facial injuries.

The Yale Allergy and Sinus Program is a multidisciplinary service offered by ENT specialists and allergists. We treat patients with allergic reactive nose, rhinitis, asthma, and hymenoptera stinging insect hypersensitivity. Patients will recieve:

  • guidance with medication for the allergic reactive nose
  • allergy desensitization shots for allergic rhinitis asthma, and hymenoplera stinging insect hypersensitivity
  • intravenous immunoglobulin (gamma globulin) therapy
  • immunosuppressive therapy including immuran, cytoxan, cyclosporin, and corticosteriods
  • optimal immunopharmico therapy for asthma
  • somnoplasty for snoring

The Yale Coblation Program offers noninvasive treatment for snoring.

The Hearing and Balance Center accommodates adults and children of all ages with disorders of the ear and conditions that affect hearing, balance and facial paralysis (see Programs & Centers). Yale offers the newest advances in surgical techniques and an active hearing rehabilitation program, which includes the most current audiologic testing techniques available and the latest developments in hearing aid technology. The center offers:

  • dizziness evaluation
  • hearing evaluations
  • tympanometry
  • brain stem auditory
  • guidance in the purchase of hearing aid and orientation to hearing aid use
  • parent counseling, parent/infant training program
  • screening of infants
  • sign language interpreters are available on request

The Speech and Swallow Center accommodates adults and children of all ages with all forms of communication disorders including speech, language, voice, fluency, singing, swallowing and dysphagia (see Programs & Centers). Speech–language pathology services include comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative techniques for stroke, voice disorders, laryngectomy and swallowing disorders.

  • External– and middle–ear surgery
  • Surgery of neoplasms of the nose, sinuses, larynx and pharynx
  • Surgical treatment of maxillo–facial injuries
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic broncho–esophagology
  • Surgery of the skull base
  • Coblation for snoring
  • Pediatric otolaryngology
  • Head and neck cancer surgery
