 Angela Walker becomes Pediatric Surgery's first Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellow

Angela Walker has joined the Department of Pediatric Surgery as a Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellow for the July 2004-June 2005 term. Angela received her Bachelor of Science in Biology in August 2001 from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa in April 2001. Angela has just completed her second year of medical school at the University of Missouri-Columbia. During her fellowship year Angela will be working closely with Drs. Larry Moss, Marion Henry, and Bonnie Silverman, investigating risk factors for perforated appendicitis and necrotizing enterocolitis. Angelais also an avid swimmer who also enjoys Cryptoquip solving, piano playing, composition writing, and outdoor hiking.

 

 Dr. Touloukian becomes President of the American Pediatric Surgical Association (APSA)

The YCCSR is proud to announce that Dr. Robert J. Touloukian assumed the APSA Presidency at the 35 the Annual Meeting held in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida in May 2004. He has many goals for his year-long term; among the most important are:

  • to increase involvement of newly inducted members,
  • to address practice issues specific to women surgeons, and
  • to emphasize development of the new 'associate' membership category for practitioners with at least 5 years of surgical pediatric practice but without pediatric surgery board certification.

We wish him a successful and productive year

 Marion Henry, MD named first John Seashore Fellow in Pediatric Surgical Research

Dr. Marion Henry is the first recipient of the newly developed John Seashore Fellowship in Pediatric Surgical Research. Currently in her second year of pediatric surgical research training, Dr. Henry came to Yale from Stanford University in July 2003 after completing her second Post Graduate Year as a general surgery resident. She is a Masters candidate in the Biostatistics division of the School of Epidemiology and Public Health at Yale. Dr. Henry's research during her fellowship includes the impact of the 80 hour work week regulations on pediatric surgical training, management of perforated appendicitis, and the use of evidence based research in pediatric surgical training.
