Principal Investigator R. Lawrence Moss, MD
Lead Investigators Marion C W Henry, MD; Bonnie Lang Silverman, PhD

Co-investigator

James Dziura, PhD

Project Goals

  • To determine the risk factors for infectious complications after treatment of perforated appendicitis in children.
  • To determine the current treatment standards, current length of stay, and antibiotic therapy in children with perforated appendicitis.
  • To develop evidence-based guidelines for prospective study of the management of perforated appendicitis in children.

Study Design

Multi-center observational outcome study for intra-abdominal infectious complications of perforated appendicitis. Study outcomes: development of abcess or phlegmon following appendectomy for perforated appendicitis.
